Ever since arriving in the United States it's long been on my bucket-list to dive the crystal water of Clear Lake in Oregon.
I finally got the opportunity and despite it being an awfully long drive, 15 hours, it was well and truly worth the effort.
Clear Lake has a long history of being a popular recreation spot in the high Cascades. It was discovered in 1859 by a party of men who were searching for a route over the Cascade Mountains.
Clear Lake is about 57 hectares in size and lies at an elevation of 918 feet, with a maximum depth of 53 metres. It is one of the clearest and coldest lakes in the Cascades.
Clear Lake is excellent for canoeing and other non-motorized boats. Fishing is good with Brook and Cutthroat trout reproducing naturally in the lake. Rainbow trout are stocked annually.
